    Wine
The prototype Mosel. Rieslings from this site are linear and clearly structured, with a refreshing lightness. In particular, they offer interplay and balance between elegant fruit notes, fine hints of blossom and lively acidity.

    Boden: Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr
    Soil
shallow and extremely stony, with weathered Devonian slate and high clay content
    Wine
This vineyard has an exceptionally warm microclimate due its south-facing exposure, the gentle wave-like troughs on its slope, and the highly skeletal nature of its slate soil. This leaves an indelible mark on the wine, lending it great expressiveness. Our Rieslings from this vineyard are normally concentrated and fruit-driven, boasting supple mouthfeel, profound minerality and a long finish.

    Wine
Sandwiched by the Goldtröpfchen vineyard and directly adjacent to the village of Piesport, this site produces enjoyable Rieslings that show good balance between sweetness and acidity as well as fine fruit expression reminiscent of ripe peach, pineapple and pear. These are wines of incredible succulence, with subtle slate notes and pointed minerality.
  • Kaseler Nies’chen

    Kasel

meagre, with hard blue and mixed slate
    Wine
This site produces Rieslings of great minerality – often with peach-like notes that move into blackcurrant territory with increased age. These are succulent, expressive, challenging wines with firm acidity.
  • Kaseler Kehrnagel

    Kasel
    Foto: Kaseler Kehrnagel
    Vineyard name
    Kaseler Kehrnagel
    Total area

deep, with weathered Devonian slate and some quartzite
    Wine
These Rieslings are very minerally and perform particularly well in dry years due to the high proportion of slate in the vineyard. Cool breezes from the woods above accentuate their minerally, cool personality. Full of tension and potential.
  • Wiltinger Gottesfuss

    Wiltingen
    Foto: Wiltinger Gottesfuss
    Vineyard name

The Rieslings that grow on Gottesfuss (‘God’s foot’) are rough-edged, wild and extremely profound. Yet they are also framed by exquisite fruit, expressive minerality and a subtle array of herbal notes.
  • Scharzhofberger

    Wiltingen
    Foto: Scharzhofberger
    Vineyard name

loess as well as coarse grey and reddish slate (up to 70%)
    Wine
Scharzhofberg Rieslings have a distinctly deep, salty minerality and pronounced, refined elegance. They often exhibit smoky notes, particularly on the nose, due to the site’s high iron content. Scharzhofberg being Scharzhofberg, these wines inevitably need time to open up. However, they will continue to display a staggering cornucopia of ripe fruit even at a very mature age.

VDP Classification

The three-tier VDP.CLASSIFICATION is the key to terroir-driven viticulture in Germany.

The goal of the VDP.CLASSIFICATION is to assess the quality potential of Germany’s very best vineyard sites; secure the future of Germany’s unique viticultural landscape; restore esteem for Germany’s outstanding dry wines; and underscore the traditional connotation of the Prädikats as attributes reserved for wines with natural, ripe sweetness.

Our estate is a member of the VDP since 2005 and belongs to the regional associtation GROSSER RING Mosel-Saar-Ruwer.
  • VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

VDP.GROSSE LAGE® are the very best vineyards of Germany and the source of the finest wines that reflect site-specifc characteristics. They are expressive, rich in complex flavors, and have exceptional aging potential.

Only traditional varieties that are best suited to a particular site or parcel, as prescribed by each region. In addition to regular VDP estate inspections, VDP.GROSSE LAGE© wines are subject to additional examinations. Quality-oriented measures in the vineyard, particularly those affecting yields, are monitored in every site throughout the growing season and before the harvest. Prior to and after bottling, the wines are critically tasted and evaluated to determine whether they meet VDP.GROSSE LAGE© criteria.

A dry wine from a VDP.GROSSE LAGE© is designated VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS© and is bottled in a special bottle embossed with the “GG” logo.

VDP.GROSSE LAGE© wines with residual sweetness are labeled with one of the traditional Prädikats (Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Eiswein or Trockenbeerenauslese), provided they qualify for a specific Prädikat.
  • VDP.ORTSWEIN

VDP.ORTSWEINE, or village wines, originate from a village’s good, traditional vineyards that are planted with grape varieties typical of their region. Yield restrictions are also a criterion for wines of this category.
  • VDP.GUTSWEIN

VDP.GUTSWEINE, or regional wines, originate from an estate’s holdings within a region. They are entry-level house wines that meet the general quality standards prescribed by the VDP and provide a good introduction to the VDP’s hierarchy that inherently links wine quality with origin
